AI literally cannot make physical art. it will never oil paint. it cannot imbue energy. it cannot become possessed. AI does not enter a flow state. the AI cannot give a part of itself away. what it creates cannot take on a life of its own.
it is flat. it is already dead.
emotionality is what makes art great. simply, i can tell when something was done with love. or, more interestingly, malice.
even if we were to get a 3d printer involved, the mechanical process of printing something digital will never have the hap-dash-slap of someone giving life to material.
with AI art, there are no happy accidents. there are no discoveries. there is only repetition and imitation of what’s already been made.
now, i don’t believe there is a cold calculation of time *or* effort *or* material input = good art. if we view AI as a material, I think there is the potential for something creative. it just depends what is done with it.
is there AI art that is imaginative? i’d like to see it. what i’ve come across is mostly 2005 deviantart “hot girl with boobies in space” bullshit. that reproduction has no artistic value because there is 0 imagination.
if AI comes to replace illustrators, graphic designers or storyboarders, it will not be a triumph of technology. it will be a failure of taste, a failure of our ability to discern good art. it will be because we are cheaping out.
